Criis
donated this sculpture to the art auction for SEEC, the Smithsonian
Early Enrichment Center.
It was held on March 11, 2006 in the main hall of the Air &
Space Museum on the Capitol Mall.
The
auction was the high end of fund raising! More than a thousand
people were milling around, spending their money on wonderful
donated things. We found beautifully made shirts with a Pooh bear
print, a signed movie poster of Harry Potter's latest movie, and
fine prints and sculpture. (Sadly, the poster went for a value
far above my budget).
All
these things brought in money for the scholarship fund to help
the kids that go to SEEC.
I
was just a little bit awed!
Besides
the auction, there was beautiful music by the St. Columba's Orchestra,
and awesome à cappalla singing by the 8th Notes, a
group of eight junior and senior girls from Walt Whitman High in
Bethesda.
And overhead, the wonderful Space Ship One, the latest addition
to the Milestones of Flight exhibit.
My
grandson Andrew spends his days at SEEC while Criis is at work in
the Natural History Museum. It is a wonderful preschool program
that provides children of Smithsonian staff the opportunity to visit
museums every day.
